Model R 7000 Suddenly no longer works without notice
Yesterday my Model R7000 AC1900 unit stopped working. I have been using it to extend my home wi-fi. I called Netgear and was told that I now have to buy a service plan for this unit. I was told that ...

They also told me that the purchase of a new product from Netgear only comes with 30 days of service coverage and every new customer has to buy a service agreement to cover beyond the 30 days.

Thank you for your help. I called Netgear again yesterday. I am going to throw the router away and research other options if I ever need an extender again. Planning to switch internet providers soon and their equipment should cover the entire house.

Be careful what you go out and look for. The R7000 isn't an extender. It wasn't designed for that purpose.
The R7000 is an aged (~2017) router. In its day it was an excellent mid-market device with technology that was, at the time, a bit ahead of the Internet service that most ISPs delivered.
Since then internet speeds have risen considerably, and with that the performance that your wifi can provide.
Throw in the improved chips that you can get in network devices and the new ways of managing routers and the R7000 gets stuck in the slow lane.
Still perfectly capable for many users, but hardly in the cutting edge.
