Motorola MG8702 with EX7700 Extender

Hi, I currently have a Motorola MG8702 (AC3200) modem/router and looking to purchase a wifi extender to improve the wifi range.  I'm not that familiar with the difference between router extenders and mesh setups so want to make sure the extender I purchase will work with the router I currently have.

 

After some research, it looks like the Netgear EX7700 is a great wifi extender (also considering the EX7500).  The extender also mentions mesh in the description though and I know setting up a mesh network requires a router that supports it (or purchasing additional equipement to connect to the router).  Will a Netgear EX7700 work with my existing Motorola MG8702 router?  Thanks for your feedback!
