Nas to nighthawk r9000 for media stream?

Hey, I just got a nighthawk r9000 and was wondering if I could use my readynas ultra 6 for media storage and stream it through the routers stream service.

From what I understood and for what I could read from old posts:

Media needs to be connected to the router through usb (at least from what it looks like on the routers gui)

Readynas cannot send media through usb.

I want to know if this is correct and if so is there a workaround?
