Oct 07, 2021Nest learning thermostat not connecting to R9000 after installing v 1.0.5.36 firmware
I updated the R9000 firmware to v 1.0.5.36 on 9/20/21.
Thereafter my Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen could not connect to the network. I opened a case with Google support and spent 2 hours troubleshooting which included a full reset of the device. The thermostat will connect to a wi-fi hotspot with no problem. Google support suspects an issue with security processing. Security is set to WPA2-PSK on both the router and the thermostat.
My Lan configuration includes a Netgear R4500 configured as an access point.
All help is appreciated.
Is there a firmware revision available?

The acess point was the issue. With the AP off the nest connected immediately.
Smart connect is off on the router.
The 2.4g channel is 6, 5g channel is 161 (due to heavy nearby use of lower channels)
Without the AP some devices can't connect to 5g at max distances from the router.
Looks like I have a new issue to pursue.
Many thanks.

Is Smart Connect enabled on the 9000 router?
Does the NEST connect if you turn OFF the 4500 AP?
What channels are you using on the 9000 router?
Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
What happens if you disable WPA security on the 9000 router temporarily then connect the NEST to the router? Re-enable WPA2 and AES on the router after testing.
