Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Desktop WiFi Range Extender
I have several devices that will only connect using 2.4GHz wireless. So I have created two extension networks 2.4, 5.0.
On the router what will happen if I turn off the 2.4 GHz SSID network. Will the extender still connect the 2.4 GHZ devices using the 5.0 GHz SSID's on the router. With the extender able to connect both is there any reason why I need the 2.4GHz router wireless network.
Extender see the 2.4Ghz, and connects the wireless to the routers's 5.0 GHz. That way all devices will connect through the extender to router's 5.0GHz wireless SSID network.
Will this work. How does the extender convert 2.4GHz into the 5.0 GHz router?

I guess I'm not sure why you want to shut off the 2.4ghz on the router?
the router and the extender use the same channel as well as the EX7000 is a mesh extender so it can have the same ssid.
I'm trying to figure out where the benefit is from disabling the 2.4ghz on the router?

Measuring my wireless speeds at my router:
5.0 GHz is 450 Mbps which is my service
2.4 GHz measures only about 165 Mbps (really a dog in speed)
And when you use the extender the 2.4GHz wireless signal measure even worst.
So the best use of the extender to the router is using the 5.0Ghz network to the router.
So for all my connected devices (2.4Ghz, and 5.0Ghz devices) (I need the extender) they need to be connected using the extender.
They are too far from the router.
So I want my 2.4 GHz devices connected to the extender, and then from the extender to the router via the 5.0 GHz connnection.
That gives me the best connection speeds using the extender.
For example on my andriod smart phone approxmately 100 feet from the router, and 30 feet from the extender using the extender:
5.0GHz extension connection110 Mbps
2.4GHz extender connection 25 Mpbs
I can see no reason why I would ever need the 2.4Ghz network on the router unless I am connecting a 2.4Ghz device directly to the router in which case I get terrible wireless speeds.

You can use fastlane on the extender.
You can set it so it dedicates the 5ghz just for router------extender communication.
And you can disable the 2.4ghz on the router if you'd like. Or just make sure it uses a different SSID so you're not placing your devices on it.
2.4ghz is a slow network. I'm impressed you're hitting over 100mbps on it. Until wireless AX, I didn't see speeds over 100mbps on any of my devices. it was average of 30-50mbps in my area. I can occassionally hit over 100mbps but it isn't sustained.
