Netgear Nighthawk too good for my broadband???
Hi, I'm in the UK and I've just had an Openreach engineer visit because my internet connection has been playing up. I'm currently with Sky and the engineer said that my "Netgear Nighthawk router is too good for our broadband (15Mb yes Mb) and that it is slowing down the internet". When i first got the Nighthawk the speeds were perfectly "normal". I'm tempted to just replace the Sky Hub with a 3rd party modem, but not sure if sky will **bleep** my speeds because of it.
Does anyone know if Sky have a history of slowing down your connection if you use 3rd party hardware?

- microchip8MasterWhy don't you call Sky and ask around? We're no Sky experts
You're router "can't be too good" to slow your connection, it's the other way around - michaelkenwardGuru - Experienced User

Not likely, as microchip8 says. But who knows given that we don't know which Netgear router you have?
The trouble may be that Sky supplied you with a modem/router. (According to the last knowledgeable OpenReach engineer who visited me, has told ISPs not to supply modem only devices.) Worse, some ISPs, including BT, supply modem/routers that you can't put into bridge (modem/only) mode.

Netgear, and most brands it seems, seem to have abandoned the market for DSL modem only devices.
If you can lay your hands on something like the DM200, that would be a good choice. The prices are getting silly. But you may be able to lay hands on a second hand one. I bought one from one of those "open box" merchants. In reality it looked new, with all the usual packing and protection.
