Netgear R7000 Lags or drops out

So I've had a R7000 for a year now and its been working "fine" most of the time. However, ive had numerous problems with the wireless internet which is it either dropping out for 5-10 mins, or just HUGE amount of ping. Note that the router is straight under my room so roughly 1m away from my pc.

  • 2.4 Ghz - lags like crazy even when only one device connected. Gets like 25Mbps.

  • 5 Ghz - Either no lag or huge amounts of lag, no in-between. Gets full 250Mbps. 5Ghz wireless drops out for 5-10 mins every 30-60 mins when gaming resulting in me either having no internet or automatically connecting me to the 2.4 with high ping.

Previous Solutions:

  • Searching for an update through the router website doesn't help, says there is no update available. Going to the router support page often reveals a MUCH newer firmware update available. Need to flash that firmware to the router with an ethernet cable from my laptop. This fixes both the 5Ghz drop-outs and high ping on the 2.4Ghz.

  • However, this problem reappears every few months which means ill have to update the router manually every month or two to have a stable router.

Why does this happen? Why cant I just have a problem-free router without needing to update its firmware every month??

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
    Armor, Circle, Traffic Meter.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch.
