Dec 06, 2020NETGEAR R8000P Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and ALG Details
NETGEAR R8000P has very few security options to adjust and many people disable NETGEAR's DDoS protection due to many false positive reports. Are there are any details on what Intrustion Detection System R8000P supports, but does not list in its settings pages? Questions:
1. Does R8000P block fragmented malformed packets?
2. Does R8000P block IPSec Passthrough?
3. What attack types does NETGEAR R8000P IDS block?
4. NETGEAR only lists SIP for Application Layer/Level Gateway (ALG) as a feature to enable/disable, but does R8000P auto-detect other applications and/or protocols in its ALG? Which ones? How does it treat them?
5. Where are the details about security vulnurabilities NETGEAR fixes in its firmware specifically for R8000P? There is just a general release note on NETGEAR website, nothing specific.
6. Is it possible to disable IGMP entirely in R8000P?
7. Is it possible to have R8000P filter/block WAN Multicast?
The most important question is of course this one:
8. Which NETGEAR routers are equivalent in WiFi signal strength and processing power to R8000P, but have full DD-WRT or OpenWRT support? R7800 and R8000 have DD-WRT support, but aren't as powerful as R8000P. R8000P has excellent WiFi coverage, which is what I like about it the most.
