Be careful with Tomato I tried it and bricked my router after recovering from that and doing more research on Tomato and Openwrt they appear to have stopped development some time ago. I'm now running DD-WRT latest build 10-03-2022-r50313 with little headaches. I've been running solid for the past 3 days without a hickup. I do have 1 of the 5Ghz radio's that is problematic while the other 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz are working perfectly for me. At least its usable now.

I can't believe that there are still issues outstanding with this router. I will never buy another Netgear product. I rolled back my firmware to a version that works and have been watching the progress of other folks with issues. There hasn't been much, but a lot of folks have struggled.
It's been over a year since the DNS issues appeared and Netgear has not fixed a problem they have caused and on top of it all make you pay for help for a problem they caused. Did I read that support is ending for this router? Ending, you've got to be kidding. I wrote to an officer of this company inquiring why the lack of support for this router when folks were having problems. You know what I got back????? Nothing. What a surprise. This was just an awful experience with a company of this longevity and a company of this size...just disgraceful.

I agree!!!
I purchased the R8000 refurbished fully aware the support expired long ago however I did not expect the firmware to be so riddled with bugs.
