What firmware version are you on?
What modem are you connecting it to?

Firmaware is up to date: V1.3.1.64_10.1.36
Modem: Netgear CM1000 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem
Wired PC dropping only as far as I know

And its happening only to wired device? usually you see it with wireless devices.
2 things you can try. and the order i'd try them in.
1. Install version 1.3.2.134 of the firmware to it over a hardwired connection (in case the firmware is corrupt), then do a factory reset and clean install (not from a backup in case that's corrupt).
2. if that doesn't work, try downgrading to version 1.3.0.20 of the firmware. follow the same install over hardwired connection/factory reset/clean install. The newer versions have netgear armor and maybe yours doesn't play nicely with armor.

I 'll give that a try when I have some time to spend on it, but, I am really curious and maybe you know the answer, why is it that when I check for new firmware from the router interface, it says "No new firmware version available." ?

Not sure exactly why. I've seen it quite frequently with the R7000P and the R7000
