Nighthawk AC2300 R7000P just stopped working
The router in the subject line just stopped working. We were streaming a movie when it suddenly quit. I can bypass the router and connect to the internet directly via an Ethernet connection so I know ...
- Apr 29, 2023Do you have firmware auto-update enabled? If so, disable it. It can brick your device, not just reset it.

What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

The firmware is V1.3.1.64_10.1.36. There is a modem in front of the router. It is an ADTRAN brand...I cant be sure of the model (maybe 411). The modem doesn't have any LAN ports - it's just a simple modem.
I did actually figure out what happened a few hours after I asked the question on this forum. The router reset to factory settings. Do you know how that could happen?

Should be OK, but some simple modems, like my DM200, come with hidden router features that can get in the way.

That is ancient firmware from 2019.
There have been several since then.
Here is the latest:
R7000P Firmware Version 1.3.3.154 | Answer | NETGEAR Support
I'd update to that.

I see that now. I thought I had the latest firmware because when I use the router interface to determine if there are updates available it displayed "no new firmware version available" and I had automatic updates enabled. Clearly I need to do a manual check the future. Thank you for your help.
