The gateway is what modem/fibre box the router is connected to.
the firmware is what runs the router. log into the router. top right side (I think, not at home to check) of the page has the firmware version. Or the status page will.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the exact same problem and its driving me insane... ha. Trying to work from home when being dropped from internet randomly is infuriating and impossible.
