Nighthawk AC2600 Smart WiFi Router(R7450 - Username admin

I've seen the discussion about not being able to change the router username to something different than "admin" and understand the point about using a longer password with the possible different username included therein.

 

But doesn't that beg the question:  Why is a username even required for a login if everyone knows what it is?  Why not just put a spot for password and not even bother forcing the user to type in "admin" if it's useless for security purposes?

    I'd agree its a bit pointless. 

    But my bet would be because of legacy coding in the setup and it not worth the cost/effort to remove it.
