Nighthawk app
I am using Nighthawk router AC1750 R6400v2. My current firmware is v1.0.4.106_10.0.80. I use MacOS 12.01.
I cannot get my Nighthawk app to update the firmware on the router.

IF there is FW availavle for you model router, I recommend manually downloading the FW file or using the routers web page to update the FW on the router.
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Nighthawk App product:

I clicked on your link but all I see is forum and discussions after clicking on it. I am very novice and need a bit more description and help solving the problem. Is there a technical support line that I can talk to someone to walk me through it? If not, I will need more specific directions please and thank you.

Not really. You could end up on a call with demands for money. Free support lasts for just 90 days after purchase.

There really is no need to dash off to a different section. (Your reply shows that this is unhelpful and unproductive advice.)
This is as good a place as any to ask your question which could apply to just about any Netgear router. So let's ignore the content free boilerplate reply and take you through the process.
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in the model number, R6400v2, for your hardware.
That page has a manual and a firmware library and drivers for your device.
Check the section in the manual on updating the firmware.Look at the release notes for the latest firmware. (I would link to that, but it might change by the time you get there.)
Then follow the manual or this:
How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
If you can, use a wired ethernet connection from your MacOS device to the router. Wired is more reliable than wifi, which could fall over in the middle of the update. If that happens, you could end up with a broken router.
