Nighthawk changed IP addresses

When I setup my new network with Cable replacing DSL I purchased a Arris 6190 modem and a Nighthawk R9000.

The Modem IP address was and still is 192.168.100.1.

The R9000 had a IP address of 10.0.0.1 and with DHCP turned on and gave out addresses to my devices as 10.0.0.X.

This has been working fine for over 2 months.

Then the other day I lost wireless from the R9000.

Lights were off on 2.4G and 5G.  Unplugged router and replugged.  When booted up all IP addresses changed to 192.168.1.X and the R9000 had an address of 192.168.1.1.

Had to reset wireless SSID and passwords.

All of my devices with a reserved IP address had to change.

Why should this happen?

I presume since after changing to the newer modem thay maybe the NG router didn't either detect the change since you may have not powered it off or reset it. Now that you reset the NG router, it detected that the conflict in IPs was gone.

The one reason could be that you had previously had a router in front of this NG router in which it had also the same 192.168.1.1 and during the set up of the NG router, it would automatically detect this conflict and change to a 10.0.0.something address. Most routers will do this if they detect this same IP address conflict. I can only presume that if the conflict would not happen and change maybe if the 1st router was changed out or removed and something else like a new modem only was installed and if the NG router was factory reset, the NG router would not use the more common default IP address of 192.168.1.1. You can use the other 10.0.0.something address string if you need too, just manually input it.

Yes the SB 6190 does not include a router.

Also be aware of this with the 6190:

What wireless modes are you using on the NG router? Try up to 300Mb on 2.4Ghz and up to 300Mb on 5Ghz.

Set manual channels to 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz if there not being used.

Set WPA2 and AES only on each radio and test.

Any other neighboring wifi near by? How many and what channels are they using? Use a wifi scanner.

      Guide

We are on 5 acres, nearest house is 1/4 mile away...doubt interference from any wifi

Changed the channel on the 2.4G to 1....had best signal when check with wifi analyzer.

There is no 300Mb on either 2.4G or 5G..just a pull down for each listing "up to 347Mb"

      Changed to this.

I do not remember if the DSL modem was still active when I installed the Nighthawk...that modem did have 192.168.1.X and that would explain the Nighthawk going to 10.0.0.X.

But why after 2 months did the Nighthawk drop the 10.0.0.X?  It was working great.
