Nighthawk R6230

Spectrum is telling me that my Netgear Nighthawk Router is the problem with my streaming and internet or lack therof.  They told me to update my software.  I am on a Desk top older Mac that is running el Capitan 10.11.6.  My laptop is newer. I went to the downloads page and nothing has worked.

Any ideas?  Please put them in easy to follow terms...

Spectrum is great at blaming 3rd party devices.

    some more details are needed.

    1. What actual firmware version are you on?

    2. What modem do you have from spectrum?

    3. What speeds do you pay for from spectrum?

    4. If you hardwire into the router, what tested speeds do you get?

    5. How big is your home?

    6. What is the interior walls/floors made of in your home?

    7. What device are you streaming on and how far away from the router is it?

    8. When you're streaming, are you on the 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

      HI,

I am not sure where to even find the firmware I am on how do I do that? I purchased this last August.

My Modem EU2251 is that it?  I got this last July.

      My speed is 400

The tested speeds were something like 200 download and 22 upload?

Our home is small, nothing in the way, door open and maybe 20 feet from router to one tv and less to the other.  One story, no metal, wood only

Floors are wood, walls are plaster

Streaming on a 15 year old TV with a ROKU stick, it is 42  feet away and much less to the other tv  We did purchase a SMART tv and will install tomorrow, hoping it fixes it...also Spectrum is coming out tomorrow to look at outside only, in the past they have been pretty useless.

I am not sure how to find the answer to the last question.

My biggest question is how do I know if the firmwear is updated?  Where do I even look?

      thanks!

When you log into the router, its status page will have what firmware version you're on.

If you're streaming, make sure you're connected to 5ghz. 2.4ghz is much slower and sensitive to inferference.

You can also try changing which channel the 2.4ghz and 5ghz are on in case there is interference.
