Thank you for your reply. Could you please explain the need for doing this, as it is a lot of work and is one of the main reasons I don't want to use ATT gateway. I have had the Nighthawk connected to 3 different modems over the years (2 Cisco and 1 Netgear without any issues without doing what you have suggested.

When you connect a router to a different modem or ONT, it is possible for the connection details to be retained in the router. With different data sources you have different Ethernet modules and thus different details. These details are only reset with a firmware default reset of the router.
It is also important to follow a proper startup sequence for the hardware. Shut off (disconnect the power cord) for both the ONT and the router and disconnect the Ethernet cable. Power up the ONT and give it ample time to connect and stabilize. Then connect the Ethernet cable, power up and give the router ample time to boot and stabilize. Recommend you do not have any other items or USB connections attached to the router for the first initialization with a new data source.
