Nighthawk R6700v3 and ATT 1000 Fiber
Has anyone had any luck getting a Nighthawk R6700v3 to work successfully with an ATT BGW320-505 and their 1 gig service? The download speeds drop to around 600Mbps download on the Nighthawks when me...

I have had the Nighthawk connected to 3 different modems over the years (2 Cisco and 1 Netgear without any issues without doing what you have suggested.
When you connect a router to a different modem or ONT, it is possible for the connection details to be retained in the router. With different data sources you have different Ethernet modules and thus different details. These details are only reset with a firmware default reset of the router.
It is also important to follow a proper startup sequence for the hardware. Shut off (disconnect the power cord) for both the ONT and the router and disconnect the Ethernet cable. Power up the ONT and give it ample time to connect and stabilize. Then connect the Ethernet cable, power up and give the router ample time to boot and stabilize. Recommend you do not have any other items or USB connections attached to the router for the first initialization with a new data source.

Two questions:
- If I do the factory reset will it revert to the original firmware?
- Will I be able to restore my cfg file? I have quite a number of reserved ips and a different LAN IP subnet.
One of my main concerns is that given that the Netgear R6700v3 only has a Dual-core 1 GHz processor while the newer products such as a RXA70 has a 64-bit 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, this older unit cannot handle the bandwidth provided by the ATT BGW320-505. Is that also a possibility?

Is that also a possibility? The R6700v3 should handle your bandwidth requirements nicely. You have not shared much information about what those requirements are. The only way to know for sure is to put it in service and test it out.

Thanks for your continued help. I've decided to just "clone" all the settings on the BGW320-505. When I built my house I wired most rooms with Cat6 cable. I have already moved over two of the three switches over and the PC connected are getting in the high 900s up and down with latency in the low 30s. The only thing I use wi-fi for are my laptop, cell phone and a plethora of smart devices around the house. It will take me a day to switch them all over to the new wireless network.
I really would like to know what the issue is but at this point I have a known alternative solution that works and there is no guarantee any of these solutions will work (based on the complaints of many trying to use the BGW320-505 in IP pass-thru mode)Actually my demands are relatively mild. Aside from streaming a view TV programs, my OOMA phone and those smart devices strewn around the house. I'm trying to get my network ready for my daughter and her husband who are moving back home to save up for a house. Her company allows her to work from now all the time, so she decided to move back here where the cost of living is much less. Oh, and her husband and her are both online gamers. Also to save money. Xfinity charges me and my wife $109 a month for a 200meg service with no data cap. ATT charges $80 for a 1gig service with no data cap.
