NightHawk r6700v3 Slow wired speed.
To start this off my setup is Astound Broadband -> Netgear CM1000v2 -> Netgear r6700v3 -> Monoprice Flexboot Cat6 Ethernet cable -> lenovo gaming 3i laptop. I am currently on Firmware V1.0.4.1...

I've reset the firmware to the default settings and followed all of the steps carefully, including adding Pass Through again and changing the password back to what it was before. Despite all of this, I'm only getting speeds of 410-450 mbps when I use the router with an Ethernet connection. But when I connect directly to the modem, I'm roughly getting the expected speeds (paying for 1gb) of 930-950 mbps. Do you have any other suggestions for how I can troubleshoot this issue and get better performance from my router? Any help would be much appreciated.

Please confirm you are using the Ookla throughput capacity test application?
In the router GUI, under Advanced -> Advanced Home Internet Port, there is an button called Show Statistics. Under the Status column you should see your port connections. The connected input port from your modem and output port to your computer should show 1000M/Full connections. Do they?
Have you tested the various router output ports? Do all four of them perform the same?

Yes, other than Lan 2 which is plugged into my tv everything is 1000M/Full. For the second question the answer is no, there's a bit of a performance gap in LAN1 and the rest of the LAN(S) from my testing at roughly 40 avg increase I tested each with the same ethernet cable 5 times.

Is there any chance you have traffic meter enabled?
Did you run a throughput capacity test immediately after performing a firmware default reset?
If not, recommend you do so and with the Wi-Fi radios off and all Ethernet cables disconnected except for your computer. This would ensure there are only three devices on your network. Modem, router, and computer, nothing else.
One more time, are you using the Ookla test application? Yes or no please.
- YasshakJan 02, 2023AspirantYes I am using the Ookla speed test application NOT the web browser version. I downloaded it off Microsoft AppStore. No I do not have traffic meter on. I had gotten 502 when I first tested with the router after the firmware reset today. Only 2 were connected to the router, the modem Ethernet cable and the Ethernet cable to my computer. No devices were logged onto the Wi-Fi at the time as well. I had just assumed it would be better to go with the results where there are people on the wifi over where it’s just me and the modem and router.

At this point we are trying to find out what is dragging down your network. The fewer connections the better.
You might try a throughput test with the Wi-Fi radios turned off. On the top of the router, the second indicator in from the right is a combination indicator/switch. Normally with the Wi-Fi radios on, the indicator would be illuminated. If you press the indicator for a couple of seconds and release, it manually shuts off the Wi-Fi radios.
Have you verified you are using the power adapter supplied with your router? There is a label on the back of your router that shows the power input requirements. Most likely 12 volts DC and 2.5 amps. On the back of your power adapter, there should be information that indicates the output capacity of the adapter. Again in volts DC and amps.
Is the AC power source for your router the same as for your computer and modem? I do not know what country your device was purchased in or what country you are using it in.

Sorry for the late reply I had gotten the flu on Tuesday. I am using the same AC power source 12 volts - 2.5 that came with my router and modem and I am in the United states. I had gotten the router in 2022-07-03 and it had this problem, I decided to ignore it because I didn't have to the time to try to fix it or worry about it since my speeds were still fine. Now that I do I would like to fix this issue. Without the wifi radio's on I got 610, 140, 192, 244, 864, 572, 90, 594, 429, 402. I thought my laptop and ethernet cable were the problem so I switched it out and got similar results. 163, 493, 592, 905, 654, 85, 402,543, 263, 226. Any suggestions on why this could be the case? I am assuming its something to do with my Internet provider, Astound broadband powered by Wave. I have also noticed that the plan that I had gotten 1 gig is no longer available and now the two gig options are 940 and 1200 though I am still paying for a gig and not either one. If you were curious I got the modem a month earlier 2022-06-03 and had used tp link router I had gotten from wave until I upgraded to the NightHawk.

Good feedback. When the LAN includes several 1 Gbps hardware ports in the data path, the average throughput maximum is in the 940 Mbps range. The hardware is limited to approximately 95% efficiency depending on manufacturer.
The power adapter appears to be fine. The results did not change with the Wi-Fi radios on or off (less load).
I do not know how long you waited between the tests shown above, it does appear to be an issue with your ISP.
- YasshakJan 07, 2023AspirantI waited 5 seconds for every test (I made sure) . And I marked them down exactly when the test ended, the order is identical, for example 610 is first test 140 is second, 192 is third 244, is fourth. I had been testing like this before as well. Ever since you mentioned the ookla speed test application I have only been using that not the browser based version.

Have you logged in to your modem and looked at the signal power levels on the cable connection and the event log?

- YasshakJan 07, 2023Aspirant
No I have not, I just did right now. Would you like the results of it? In the event log I have a ton of things that say critical but they are from a couple of months ago. I don't know what I am looking at on cable connection part though.
- KitsapJan 07, 2023Master
Yes, please. Copy the results to a word processing page. You will have to narrow the margins and reduce the font size so they are readable. Comcast is doing work in my area and I am keeping track of the results. See attached as an example.

I am on Windows not mac, does this work?
