Not all Netgear firmware versions are trouble-free. However,
although you can read reports in places like this, running the
experiment may be the only reliable way to see if the newer bugs are
better (for you) than the older bugs.

Finished the reset. Manually re-set all the various settings vs. using a saved config file. During the reset it checked for a firmware update but said NO updates available. Huh? Is this normal? Ignore it and update anyway?
Why would the device not see updates are available?

Don't get hung up about auto updates. You are better off manually checking yourself by just Googling R7000 firmware updates and it will take you to the Netgear download page for the model. I check monthly. I've done six firmware updates since buying my own router in February 2020 all problem free.

Thanks. I was going to do the update this afternoon after wife finishes work (remote worker) but apparently it auto-updated overnight. So far everything works. Sure hope the reset and/or update solves the WiFi issues.
I call this issue resolved.
