Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 Wireless connection 1/4 - 1/3 the speed of wired

Hello, I know this question has probably been asked before, but I am currently wondering what type of wireless speed I should expect from the 5Ghz band compared to my wired speed. I get 900Mbps down/ 25mbps up when running wired through the router, to my macbook pro, which is basically what I pay my ISP (xfinity) for, but wirelessly on the 5Ghz band I get closer to 200-300mbps down.

I know not to expect the same 900 down for wireless, but I was wondering what would be a realistic expectation? I have done the usual things, QoS off, metering off, different channels, factory reset, etc., but haven't seen any improvement. Just want to know whether I should expect to get more speed wirelessly or if thats pretty much the top. Firmware is V1.0.11.128_10.2.112.

Thanks!

Thanks for a link to the review, there's a lot of great info and I appreciate it. Unless I am interpreting it incorrectly the review seems to match up, in terms of wireless speeds and cable speeds, with what I am experiencing. I will have to look around to see what options I have (if any) to achieve greater wireless speeds closer to what my ISP is providing. Thank you.

A lot of the bottle neck with wireless connection isn't the router itself but the device you're testing on.

and usually people don't "need" faster wireless speeds. For example, streaming 4k only takes 25-40mbps. So most phones/tablets aren't going to even be close to maxing out a 250mbps wireless connection.

If you want to enter the rabbit hole of wireless knowledge, this is a good site thats well written about wireless devices.
