Nighthawk r7000 as AP not working

Hi,

I am trying to use my old router as an AP but for some reason it does not work.

The setings I applied:

In wif settings I gave the ssid of my home network and the password both for 2.4 and 5ghz.

i've followed the steps found here:

https://kb.netgear.com/20927/How-do-I-change-my-NETGEAR-router-to-AP-mode-after-setting-it-up

The ethernet cable going into the AP connects to the WAN port and the LED is white.

For testing sake I connected to a LAN port and the LED of the port was orange and the wifi network did not propegate.

I have 0 signal where the AP is located when connected to the WAN port.

So, am I missing a step?

Thanks in advance,

Eli

Not a router.  Look for "Model" on the product label.

         Looks old/obsolete to me.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.
Look for a topic like "Set Up the Router as a WiFi Access Point".

      > The ethernet cable going into the AP [...]

         From where?

      > [...] connects to the WAN port and the LED is white.

         _Which_ "the LED"?

What are _all_ the LEDs doing? I n the User Manual, look for the LED
descriptions and "Troubleshoot".  Pay particular attention to something
like a "WiFi On/Off button with LED".  Did you press it?  Further
      reading might not hurt, either.

      > For testing sake I connected to a LAN port [...]

"connected" _what_ "to a LAN port" on _what_?

      > [...] the wifi network did not propegate.

I don't know what that means.  A vague description of what does _not_
happen is less useful than a clear description of what _does_ happen.

Probably not your main problem, but...

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.  (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
When that fails because of a deficient User Manual, try:

Get into your router dashboard (192.168.1.1), select advanced > advance setup > Router / AP / Bridge / Repeating Mode.  Select AP and you're good to go.
