Nighthawk R7000 has no internet and will not update firmware

Earlier this week after working well for about 3 years my router began having internet issues and I did not have Wi-fi or even when using a wired ethernet connection to the router.

I started getting into what the issue might be and after confirming that my area did not have an internet outage and that my modem was working properly, I found that my router was not auto-updating and that it had several firmware updates that it needed, so I started trying to manually upload them and each time it gave an error screen that the 'connection was reset'.

I tried resetting the router and still had this issue, so now I am at a loss for what I can do other than try resetting it again, or buy a new router. I am not even sure if fixing the firmware update issue will solve my initial problem, which is that I cannot get internet in my house in any way than a wired connection with my spectrum modem.

The first step is to verify you have completed the firmware default reset successfully.  Power down your modem and remove the power cord and the ethernet cord to your router.

With the router powered on, press and hold the recessed reset button on the back of the router until the LED’s flash (usually ten to fifteen seconds).  Release the reset button and let the router complete the boot process.

Connect an Ethernet cord between your router (one of the output ports) and your computer.  Restart your computer and log into the user interface using admin for the username and password for the password.  If you are successful with the log in, it means you were successful in the firmware default reset.

Follow the instructions below to update your firmware to the most recent version (Firmware Version 1.0.11.136).

Power down your router and disconnect the power cord.  Connect the power cord to your modem and give it plenty of time to connect to your ISP and stabilize.  Connect the Ethernet cord between the modem and the input (WAN) port on your router.  Power up the router, let it boot and stabilize.  One of the last LED’s to come on in white is the Internet connection (second from the far left side).  You will have to reconfigure your router from scratch.

It would be good to know what the manufacturer name and model number is of your ISP modem.  Please provide.

For security reasons, you should not publish the serial number of your router.  It is not needed here.

Long term, recommend you disable auto update for the firmware.  It is the source of many problems.
