If you're using smart connect, its actually your phones doing it as 5ghz has less interference and a much faster network than 2.4ghz.
Hi and thanks for the reply but my Smart Connect has never been enabled because it's unchecked and I confirmed it's unchecked again today before I sent this post. I should have written that in my initial post.
I've also had this router for about 2-3 years and this recently started.You can always go into your devices and erase the 5ghz band from their remember networks if you don't want them connected to it.
maybe it was something updated on the devices that causes them to prefer the 5ghz network.
You could also try changing the channel on the 2.4ghz. Maybe something is causing interference on that network
