Nighthawk R7500 Eide
I've been using the Nighthawk R7500 for a long time, and I'm (still) happy with it. Now I got another laptop (win11) and I want to access the eSata HD connected to this router from the new file explo...

It works !
This new laptop (win11) used SMB2 and apparently my netgear setup doesn't work with this. So I changed it to SMB1 (wich is not/less insecure in "home" networks) and everything works.
Sadly enough it's not mentioned in the manual.
Nevertheless : thanks for your time and effort to help me !

Page 63 in the manual goes over connection and then it moves (in later pages) in how to access it.

Could it be that it only works on win7 and not on this new win11 laptop ?

Glad you got it working!
If you're reliant on the external, might be time to check into a NAS. A router based one is nice for just starting out, but a good NAS with backup is awesome. I can't tell you the number of times my NAS based RAID array saved my data
