Nighthawk R7900P X6S setup issues
I have been trying to set up my R7900P WiFi router all afternoon and each time I get to the point where it says it’s configured and I click “Next”, it idles for about a minute or two then says it enco...

What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.
Having two routers on a network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.

Apologies for all the questions. But you can help people to help you by providing the information suggested in this forum's header:
Subject (Include model number and brief summary)
Model (Recommended - Helps the community give the best answers)
Body (Include additional detail including model version, firmware, OS and environment where relevant.)
They are there for a good reason.

I’m sorry, I read in the header that we should give the model number and describe what issues we were having. I must have missed the part about what firmware version I have, which modem I’m using and from which university I received my masters in Internet Technology.
Excuse me for the sarcasm; however, I thought this forum was to help people. I’m not an idiot, I have a degree in engineering and I’ve worked in that field for over 25 years. Not everyone knows the latest and greatest in the tech field, but if you’d like to discuss something I’m an expert in then please feel free to point out my weaknesses!
That being said, having just purchased this router I downloaded the “latest” firmware ver 1.4.1.68.
I am using an Arris Surfboard SB6190 modem that does NOT have a router.
If you need more information please just ask. The “tone” of the help on this forum is quite condescending. I understand that there may be a LOT of tedious and repetitive questions, but directing that frustration at a new forum user is not necessary.

You clearly didn't read the page where you entered your message.

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
You may have done that already. I can't tell from your messages.
I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.- Va_tech90May 16, 2021AspirantAnd you’re “one of them”. Thanks, I’ll find my answers elsewhere. Have a great day!

Does that mean that you're using its setup "Smart Wizard"? Some of
the non-psychics in your audience might not be able to see the steps,
including your responses.> It shows my WiFi is connected; [...]
"It"? "shows"?

I'd avoid any Netgear-supplied app, and stick with a web browser, but
"cannot" is not a useful problem description. It does not say what you
did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual, showing
actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

Internet access might be difficult.Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read. Look for
the LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot"?> [...] is there a way to designate the guest WiFi as the 2.4 ghz and

(and, perhaps, "Manage the Basic WiFi Settings and WiFi Security of the
Guest Network"). You can assign a different SSID to the 2.4GHz radio
and the 5GHz radio without dragging "Guest Network" into the discussion.> [...] The "tone" of the help on this forum is quite condescending.

basic information.> [...] I'm not an idiot, I have a degree in engineering [...]
And yet, your attempt to ask a technical question was this lame.
Vast expertise and experience are not required to provide a useful
description of what you did or what happened when you did it. Nor are
they substitutes for relevant information.> [...] I understand that there may be a LOT of tedious and repetitive
> questions, [...]
"tedious and repetitive questions" are not the problem. People who
can't be bothered to consult the readily available documentation, whose
problem "descriptions" assume that the reader was present during the
user's activity, and who then get all huffy when asked for basic
information whose importance should have been obvious from the beginning
-- _those_ are problems.
