Nighthawk R8000 goes offline

Question

My router is consitently losing or dropping its internet connection. I am running firmware v1.0.4.76_10.1.82. My ISP, Frontier Communicatoins, provide me with a modem/router. I have that modem connected to my Nighthawk via a network cable. When the Nighthawk loses internet our connected devices lose their internet connection (I know that is obvious I'm just trying to be thorough). However I know the Frontier modem is connected to the internet because my wired devices, i.e. Xbox, desktop computer, continue to have internet access.

It is possible that this is only a problem on the 5GHz band. For example, right now my iPhone has no connection but my Rokus and smart plugs do.

This started a few weeks ago and seems to be happening more and more frequently.

plemons,&nbsp;Thanks for the insight.&nbsp; I went with option 2.&nbsp; It does not appear that the Arris modem router can be put in a modem only mode and I did not like the loss of routing options caused by option 3.&nbsp; I have also turned off the 2.4 and 5.0 channels on the Arris router.&nbsp;I haven't noticed any loss of function with any of my devices that are connected via wifi or hard wired.&nbsp; I will report back in a week as to whether this solved the problem with wifi dropping.&nbsp;&nbsp;It looks like in a perfect world I would replace the Arris modem router with a Frontier compatable cable modem.&nbsp; That would save me $10 a month and eliminate any potential double NAT issues.

My Netgear router is connected to an Arris NVG468MQ router.&nbsp;I don't know how to find the answers to your questions&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Is the gateway in passthrough/modem only mode?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Or the netgear in access point mode?

That gateway is a modem/router/moca adapter combo device.&nbsp;
it causes a double nat which can create some network instability.&nbsp;
A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NATFixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1. 1. Put the modem/gateway in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions. 2. Leave the modem/gateway in router mode but put the Netgears IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the netgear. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference3. Put the Netgear into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Probably the easiest option to to put the netgear in AP mode. But there are drawbacks as outlined above.&nbsp;
