All of a sudden for no explainable reason the router disconnected to the internet. The set up is a netgear modem with an Ethernet cable connecting the modem to the router. I have followed the directions several times by unplugging the modem waiting for the modem online led to turn green, plug in the ethernet cable and plug in the power cable to the router. The router boots up all the lights turn white except the internet light which stays orange. Trying to test to see if the modem was working properly I unplugged the modem and connected the ethernet cable from the modem direct to the computer and I have no problem as the computer connects to the internet. So I'm ruling out the modem as the culprit. I then pushed in the factory reset on the router and when through the entire process of restarting the modem and I get the same result with the orange light indicating no internet. Not sure if the router is bad or if there is something I can try to get the internet to connect again. Help please.
What is the model number of your modem?
On rare occasions, some combinations of hardware need the startup sequence reversed. Turn off and power down (remove power cords) from both your modem and router. Disconnect any Ethernet cords, USB drives, etc. from your router. Power it up completely and let it stabilize. Then connect an Ethernet cable to your modem and power it up.
Another sequence is to power down your modem, remove all connections including the coaxial cable. Give it a few minutes before connecting the coax and powering it up. Removing the coax resets some of the connections.
