Nighthawk R8500 guest network seeing devices when disabled

Your (unspecified) "my work laptop" is connected to the R8500 using a
"Guest Network" SSID?
"see" _how_, exactly? As usual, showing actual actions (commands)
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Think, for a moment, about how little useful information that
non-description conveys to the non-psychics in your audience.

Depends on what you wish to "solve". Is your complaint that
something like "ping" works between guest and non-guest devices, or that
some actual data-carrying service, like, say, file sharing, works
between guest and non-guest devices?
On these routers, a "guest network" is not a separate network, but
there are firewall-like rules (enabled by default) which can limit the
ability of "guest" client devices to communicate with non-guest client
devices. If you expect absolutely no communication between guest and
non-guest devices, then prepare for disappointment.
I'm connecting to the wifi network through my laptop's gui. By I can access everything on my non-guest network. I'm able to print to my printer, access and use my Plex server, output my audio to my AppleTV, etc. NOTHING is blocked at all. I'm able to ssh to a linux host not in the guest network from the guest network. There are no rules allowing NAT or Port forwarding on the router. UPnP is disabled.

Are you not seeing that the make, model, etc of the laptop make no difference in this situation? I just got a linux laptop and ran a nmap scan of ports 1-1000 against the IP range I set up and nothing is being blocked. Is this a software bug for the router or is it the illusion of security?
I went one step further. I ran the same nmap on an intel atom box I have that has a RJ45 connection to my router and did a tee of the output to a flat file. I did the same from the linux laptop on the guest network and then scp'd the file from the intel atom box to my laptop while on the disabled access guest network. I then ran a diff against the output files. The diff came out with nothing different in the files.
