Downgraded my firmware to 1.0.3.6. rebooted and tried to register. This time all went through. Upgraded to 1.0.3.10 and tried again, broken again. Must be the new **bleep** firmware. Doesn't really surprise me that Netgear has no input on this.

I would jump to that conclusion.
I have been confused in the past by the multitude of logins that Netgear throws at us – MyNetgear, readyCLOUD, Parental Controls, Netgear DDNS – and I have been gradually unifying them with the same credentials.
That is probably against all the advice on computer security, but the confusion otherwise is hopeless.
