There are various ways of finding the IP address of the R9000 in AP mode.
Netgear has a neat tool that can do that. The Netgear desktop genie can also manage various settings.
Netgear is trying to kill this useful utility, but for the time being you can find it here:

Be warned that the genie installation file is wrapped up in a RAR archive that you have to decompress.
If you use that, it has a useful network map of your network.
The AP will show there. You can click on the icon for the AP and see the IP address. It should show you a clickable link that opens the GUI for the R9000
Netgear advises against it, but you can give the AP a fixed IP address. Then you can get at the thing again whenever you need to go in and change anything,
