nighthawk x42 R7800 refuses to factory reset

I've been going through the steps to reset my router.  Holding the reset button does indeed cause the router to reboot, but not reset to factory.  I need to wipe this thing and start from scratch, but no matter what I do, when it reboots, it's setup like it was.  Firmware is the latest out there.

Firmware: 1.0.2.82

    have you tried logging in through the browser and going:

    Advanced-->administration--->backup settings--->erase

      I did. That sort of erased half the settings, but not the admin stuff. Super weird. It finally came back up, but it won't see random things that are connected. It's gonna go in the trash. Where it belongs.

        prior to trashing it, I'd try 2 other things.

        1. reinstall the firmware to it. maybe its corrupt. i recommend version 1.0.2.68, then try the factory reset, reinstall

        2. there are 3rd party firmwares out there for the r7800 like ddwrt and others. I've heard good things about them.
