You might check in to a EX7700 extender that you can put on the inside of the home that points out to the back yard to get some single there.
Yes, it's good to get your own modem, however you can keep the 7800 as your wifi router. Just get into a Netgear CM series modem if your ISP supports owners having there own modem on there network. Ask them first. Then add on a EX wifi extender.
CM1000, 1100, 1200, 2000, 2050v are cable modem only model units if your on a cable ISP. These only work on cable ISPs.
