What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.
Try using Ooklas installable speed test app on the PC.
Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Oddly enough, the modem doesnt seem to have a manufacturer on it (its from Charter/Spectrum) Model number ET2251. They sent the modem when I upgraded (~2 weeks ago), I am using their supplied CAT5e cable to connect the router to the modem, but I can go get a 6.
I have rebooted everything (pc, router, and modem) several times since the new modem came in and since the call with the ISP.
I have not done a factory reset of the router, I guess I can try that after I log off of work for the day

Ok.
Thats a Hitron model modem.
Something to try, connect directly to the back of the ISP modem with a wired PC and run a speed test with out the router in the mix.
Try a reset on the router when you can.

Factory reset did nothing in terms of improvement, still less than half the speeds of connecting directly to the modem gets me. made sure the factory reset didnt turn on any erroneous parameters/settings not sure what else can be done other than getting a newer model

After the factory reset did you set up from scratch using a wired PC and web browser or Nighthawk mobile app?
Change out lan cables between the modem and router and wired PC and router to be sure? CAT6 is recommended.
Speed testing with Ooklas installable speed test app?
