Nighthawk X6 R8000 VPN Config

Need to configure the VPN feature on R8000 router. I seem to have followed all the steps in the various links. Configured the router to enable VPN and downloaded and installed OpenVPN. CAn't get any connection.

We purchased a static IP for our comcast modem. We were told by comcast that "bridge" mode doesn't work with static IPs, but by setting it to "pass through" and disabling the wifi and dhcp, the results would be the same.

modem public  IP  99.yy.zzz.233   g/w  99.yy.zzz.234    modem private IP 10.1.10.1

netgear wan IP  10.1.10.3  g/w  10.1.10.1    DHCP assigning 192.168.1.xxx IPs

I am unclear as to how to use port forwarding or even if that is what is needed. I have set up SSLVPN elsewhere using sonicwall firewalls,this is my first attemp at using only a router.

I have seen numerous posts voicing successes, but not identical to my set up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
