BT loves to dump modem/routers on customers. (An OpenReach technician once told me that Internet service provides are under orders not to supply modem-only boxes.) And those modem/routers don't have a "modem only" mode, which can complicate matters.

This raises issues that people have to deal with when they want to add their own router.

Which of the various BT Business Hubs do you have? If it is one of those modem/routers, your Nighthawk X6S, which could be one of several models, could have problems. You have piled router on router.

Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.

But that has its own drawbacks:

We don't have this problem when it is turned off - although I can't use the home wifi without it as I am out of range without the booster.

When you say that the Netgear router is "interfering", what does that mean? What symptoms do you see?

And what is this "booster"? Netgear does make a Nighthawk X6S WiFi extender, the EX8000. But most X6S stuff is routers.

If you just want to spread the WiFi, then putting a router into wireless access point (AP) mode could stop them from falling over, or interfering with, each other because of NAT problems.

If it is more an issue of wireless signals, then you may be able to tweak the channels that the modem/router and booster use.
