Nighthawk(R) X4S R7800 -> Howto specify the DNS server for DHCP clients?
Hi,
I have a Nighthawk(R) X4S R7800.
My DHCP clients use the router itself as the DNS service.
However, I have a pihole DNS server running in my LAN and I want to for the DHCP clients to use pihole as the primary DNS server.
I can't find a setting in the admin page of the R7800 to set this.
The only DNS related settings are towards the WAN connection not LAN related.
How do I force my DHCP clients on the LAN side towards a different DNS server, something else than the R7800 itself?

Just to add to my original post:
I do not want the R7800 to forward the DNS request to my DNS server on my LAN.
I want to make the DHCP clients to use the DNS service directly instead of via the R7800.I run a pihole on mine. 3 things you need to do.
1. go into your router and reserve an IP address for the pihole.
2. go to Advanced-->Setup--->Internet setup----> and for the DNS address, plug in the pihole's address into the "use these dns servers". I'd setup a secondary for google/quad 9/cloud fare in case the pihole is down
3. you need to do this same thing for ipv6 if its supported/used on the router. figure out your piholes ipv6 address and go to advanced--->advanced setup--->ipv6-----> and do the same thing for the ipv6 DNS server
Thanks for your reply, but this is not what I'm looking for.
I too have pihole in my LAN.I did configure my pihole as DNS server, that works fine.
The problem is the R7800 is acting as proxy and passing thru every DNS request to pihole.
As the result Pihole has only one client: the R7800.
In want to see DNS resolving per client and for that the clients have to use pihole as the primary DNS server without the R7800 sitting in between.
As far as I know this can be done by the DHCP server giving back the DNS server in the DHCP request back to the DHCP-client. There is no such option in the adminpage of the R7800 and I was hoping this could be done somewhere through telnet .......
I hope this clarifies my request.If you want the pihole to have "per device" values, it needs to be the DHCP server.
You'd enable it on the pihole and disable dhcp on the R7800.

the pihole forum is going to be a better resource for what you're attempting versus the forums. I think I'm one of the few on here that use a pihole. Problem is I switch/tests routers so frequently that I leave the router managing dhcp as its something I have to test.
