No more 2.4 Wifi on R7000 Nighthawk after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update
Hi, Never had an issue before with the R7000, but after the V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 update I have no wireless 2.4Ghz devices connected to the router. 5Ghz works fine, but most of my devices do not suppo...

Yes, it does, but it's well documented on this forum that certain firmware updates are incompatible with the settings from previous versions. Chalk it up to Netgear's unwillingness to fix their configuration subsystem to be backwards and forwards compatible.

As expected from the experiences of other forum members: no 2.4 wireless this morning.
But honestly, a factory reset sounds like an advice from Microsoft on Windows. Mhh, your start button doesn't work, just do a reinstallation. Never mind the amount of work it takes.
This should not be neccesary on a quality product such as the R7000. My router holds a lot of additional settings including port forwarding and it is a lot of work to redo it.
I just went back to firmware version .23 and the wireless came up fine.
I'll stick to that version for now.

It's also well documented on this forum that a factory reset does nothing to remedy the issue being discussed here. I agree with rudiklein, and have often used the Microsoft analogy as well.
- candroulakisDec 18, 2017AspirantI downgraded yesterday but did not help. Then i did factory reset on top of that and it has helped so far so it does seem necessary.

However, that wasn't the suggestion I was replying to. The suggestion I replied to mentioned nothing of a firmware downgrade. The suggestion was "do a factory reset" after a firmware upgrade.
I would go further: "do a factory reset" is a convenient but inexcusable cop-out by software support staff. Allowing a system to get into an invalid state is a hallmark of bad design. People have become all too accepting of "just wipe clean" to cure problems. We shouldn't reward bad design by being the willing accomplices to enable a company's profits on a bad design choice. "Factory reset" should be a last-resort admission of failure on the part of a company when supporting its products, not a standard troubleshooting step.

Everybody, thanks for the help.
It is what it is: bad design is the cause, factory reset the solution.
(The downgrade didn't help, but you probably guessed that already.)
I'll have some typing to do tonight.....
Bye,
Rudi

Hi All,
I apologize for the long wait. Please try the latest firmware for R7000. Report back for any issues encountered.

James,
Can you please clarify? The release notes explicitly say "Security fixes." The issue reported in this message is a connectivity bug. Can you affirm that this firmware does contain a change that may fix the issues reported in this thread? Or are you just hoping that it does?

Yes, can you please confirm this will fix this issue? This is causing a lot of headaches for everyone.

Hi All,
I have verified it from our engineers that the latest firmware includes the fix for wireless connectivity issue.
- candroulakisDec 18, 2017Aspirant
I'm certainly not installing any update yet until I hear from multiple people it fixes both the loss of wifi and the speed loss encountered in the 5GZ range.
- candroulakisDec 18, 2017Aspirant
Does it fix the loss of speed on the 5gz range? This has also existed for a couple releases.

Well, I can confirm that the V1.0.9.18_1.2.27 FW did not fix the issue simply uploading it to the router. Within 2 hours I started suffering the same problem. I've since then went ahead and factory reset it and reset the router up from scratch. So we'll see how that goes.

No go on the FW fix. It worked for about an hour after a factory reset and started dropping the 2.4G devices.

Hi Netabc123,
Just confirm that reset has been done after the update?
How many devices are affected?
- Netabc123Dec 19, 2017Guide
Hi,
I have rebooted, but not yet done a factory reset. I will do so later when there's less traffic on the network.
For me, the issue isn't device specific, rather it is band specific. When the 2.4GHz band has issues, all my devices are unable to obtain an ip via the 2.4GHz network. Same thing happens to the 5GHz network (different SSID). As far as I'm aware, the timing the of the issues occur randomly and can only be fixed with a reboot or applying a change to the router. There are times I can use both bands and times when it's one or the other.

I did the Factory Reset on FW V1.0.9.18_1.2.27, but it didn't work. An hour after applying the factory reset the 2.4G devices started falling off. I've noticed also that the "Attached Devices" list is missing all the 2.4G devices and a few of the 5G devices as well. I've also got devices connected to the internet that appear to be working but don't show in the "Attached Devices" list from the routers GUI.
I'm running Smart Connect Wifi so my 2.4G and 5G are on the same SSID. I'm also running QoS if that makes a difference.

Hi Mprinter17,
Thank you for feedback. To help us easily monitor issues related to the latest firmware, please post it under the thread below.

I want to also confirm that V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 doesn't fix the 2.4ghz drop issue. Started experiencing this sometime in November, not sure exactly when because router is configured to automatically install updates. 2.4g has never been stable since, requires power cycle, finally tried hardware reset and it dropped again after ~12 hours of use.
- benasaurDec 19, 2017Aspirant
Can anyone confirm a last known good firmware version? I've read 1.0.7.12. Are there any others you have reverted to and has worked well?
- rudikleinDec 20, 2017Star
Please keep in mind that downgrading could make you vulnerable to other issues and may cause a security weakness.
Then you might have 2.4Ghz working, but you also might get unwanted visitors.
Just saying.

I updated from v1.0.7.10_1.2.3 to v1.0.9.14_1.2.25. One of my 2.4 GHz wi-fi devices started to be disconnected.
I downgraded back to v1.0.7.10_1.2.3, made a hard reset and restored my saved settings (from 1.0.7.10_1.2.3).
So far NO problems with 2.4 GHz (2 days non-stop usage/monitoring)!
