Thank you both for your kind offer to help but this has been such a bad experience I have bought a Synology RT2600ac and am going to return the Netgear router. I just can't see spending money with a company that doesn't seem to be interested in supporting their customers.

good luck! I've heard good things about the Synology RT2600AC but I haven't had the chance to use one myself.

Thanks! I've used them before for customers. They are super reliable and have loads of features. They are more expensive than Netgear but worth it in my opinion plus got this on sale for only $20 more than the Netgear router.
