Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

I'm betting you started with a 3rd party firmware like ddwrt?
Because the stock netgear firmware would have prevented you from installing that.
find out what 3rd party firmware you had on the router and post in that forum.
they'll be best able to help you get the right firmware on there.

Either that, or they used one of those odd telnet commands (artmtd) that allow you to change the identity of a router. We had to do that when beta testing DumaOS on an R7800 before the hardware was ready.
I doubt if that would help in this case, but it does suggest that your next bit is spot on.
find out what 3rd party firmware you had on the router and post in that forum.Go visit the place where they cooked up the 3rd party firmware and reverse engineer the process they go through. It sure isn't something that many people here will have experienced.

Thanks for the reply guys , I was able to solve it as the linksys firmware needs to be reset while rebooting the router. I did a factory reset changed username and password , and the installed the correct firmware version on the router to fix the issue . been a hassle though 🙂
