Older Windows PC's no longer see networked drives w/ R7000 when using firmware v1.0.11.216 or newer
I noticed that there were some serious security vulnerabilities with the R7000 router, in particular: CVE-2022-48196 CVE-2022-37235 CVE-2022-37234, for which a cyber attacker can use a technique ...

I posted the same question in another forum and someone mentioned that Netgear probably disabled SMB v1 on the latest Netgear firmwares, however it might be possible to re-enable SMB v1 through the firmware's config files. Does anyone know how to do this?
Alternately, could Netgear please re-release the firmware with SMB v1 re-enabled, or at least make it a toggle switch to the end user in the UI? Thanks.

the R7000 is a 12 year old router. It was released in 2013. Its been on the end of life bulletin for a while. So you aren't going to see much development/changes with it.
Your best option? The r7000 was one of the devices that could run 3rd party firmware like ddwrt/tomato. they still get updates/development and in certain cases, work extremely well. Might be an option if you're wanting to continue to use an ancient router.

The latest firmware for the R7000 was released just a few months ago, so unless another critical vulnerability is discovered, I'd imagine the router has some time left on it.
I don't think a new router will resolve the issue with older computers not being able to access the NAS. I would imagine that all new Netgear routers now have SMB v1 disabled, thus buying new won't resolve my issue.
At some point, I may look into a 3rd party firmware, but there exists the risk of ruining the router entirely.
