I have the issue with all outgooing mail regardless of the recipient. (I have tried at least 15-20 different ones)
No, I have not enabled the VPN on the router.
It is possible that the IP is black listed but when I ran the lookup for my dynamically assigned IP, it only shows up on the Sorbs list I posted perviously.
The problems started occuring after Jan 5th, which is when the firmware patch came out. I had the router to auto update (that was my bad).

Thanks for answering my questions. If it is for all recipients thatn it is indeed related to the router. Because when you put it off everything works so no local security software can be the culprit.
Are you using openDNS for parental control? That is the only extra protection feature that your router offers.

Netgear discontinued there custom services 12/31/21.
See here how to configure it: https://www.opendns.com/setupguide/#familyshield
Try to downgrade firmware : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbcKq7BqNiQ
(for testing purposes, if related to the upgrade). Do you have custom firmware installed?

Nope, I am not using openDNS or parental controls. I'm getting the primary and secondary DNS from my ISP. In testing, I tried google's openDNS of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. It did not change the issue and is router related.
I have yet tried to downgrade the firmware but I did get the update before the Jan 5th one to try it.

The error message that you are getting in your mail software normally means that one of your devices is infected and sending SPAM. Did you already ran a security scan on your devices?

If I turn off WiFi on my phone (disconnecting to my network) the email goes through and I do not get the message.
So you do confirm that when you remove the router and let WiFi activated on the phone you can still sending mails. English isn't my motherlanguage so I want to make clear that I understood you correctly. You should also contact Netgear. You can find the firmware upgrades also on the website: https://www.netgear.com/support/download/?model=R6400

I solved my problem and I have to say how displeased I am to find out it was the Nighthawk router (that was only a year old) that was causing the issue. I replaced the router and the problem went away.
