Please challenge the management and let us know why the QA processes again let this out prematurely.
This assumes they have a QA process in place. From what I have observed with the firmware issues on various Netgear routers Netgear has just bypassed QA. QA just gets in the way, like the features dropped from certain routers so that the money grab Armor could be installed. A feature that is free from the competition without removing features.

There is no way to remove a Plex update, and reinstall manually on the R9000 (and the XR700). All you can do is untick the automatic update, and trigger the update manually again. Or wait and see (that's Netgear's support strategy).
