port blocked
I am running a CM700 modem and a R6400-v2 router and need to have access to port 8883. If i run a check it says it is blocked. I called Comcast and they say it is not on their end and I need to talk ...

"the device"? If it's not connected to the router, then how do you
expect the router to forward anything to it?

Sounds to me as if there might be some kind of problem with

Does your (unspecified) "a dumb device" appear in an Attached Devices
report on the R6400v2? If not, then have you tried connecting it again?
Does its (unspecified) maker provide any instructions for it? LED
indicators? Any useful information at all?
- Ok it is a Chaimbelain My-Q smart hub. I have tried connecting it multiple times over the past day. I have been on the phone with their support, who told me it needs access to port 8883 and told me to contact Comcast. I was on the phone with Comcast and they said they do not block that port and to call Netgear. I do not see the device in the log. I connected a pc directly to the modem and it still says port 8883 is blocked. Has led light and the blinking blue light means it failed to connect and that's what I get. Is the hub broken, maybe but I can not prove that until I get access to port 8883.

Forget port 8883. No port matters to anyone until you get the myQ
smart hub connected to your router. Also, if the myQ smart hub creates
its own outgoing connection using port 8883, which would be my guess,
then neither your ISP or your router is likely to stop it. Port
forwarding is used for _incoming_ connections; it's not needed for

Nonsense. Forget port 8883. Is there anything in the basic myQ
smart hub instructions which tells you to worry about port 8883?
Perhaps there's a reason for that.
Any port like 8883 would be involved in communication between your
myQ smart hub and some computer in the outside world which Chamberlain
runs so that your mobile phone can easily talk to your myQ smart hub.
It has nothing to do with the wireless-network set-up between your myQ
smart hub and your router.My quick Web search found:

Did you follow those directions? Step by step, what did you do, and

Forget port 8883.I have followed all the instructions on Chaimberlains website for the hub and for my router and was walked through them again by their tech support person. I have tried to reconnect at least 50 times. Factory reseting the hub at least 10 times uninstaling and reinstalling the app. My 2.4 network is woring fine all other devices connect with no problem. I connected to the modem directly just to see if the router was where the issue was with port 8883. I understand that the port is not the issue if I can not connect the hub to the router but their tech support says that is the problem and I cannot get them to go any further since they are blaming the port and not willing to look further at the hub. I would love to forget about the port but they will not. According to them it is either the port or I do not know my password.
Ports Required for myQ Products to Communicate with the myQ Server
- Verify inbound and outbound TCP port 8883 is open
- Verify the port is not being blocked by your router or a firewall product
Went through all the router settings at the page above as well
The hub does not appear as an attached device and I do not expect to forward the port, I put that in so someone did not tell me to forward the port.
