Like microchip8 says, are you having issues or just curious?
Updating the firmware is usually to fix security concerns of fix bugs. Usually doesn't impact performance a whole lot.
And spectrum is responsible for updating the firmware. Netgear updates it and sends the files to spectrum. Spectrum is the one that certifies it and incorporates it into their provisioning to be pushed to devices. But sadly, the cerfitying costs spectrum $ to do so the ISP's rarely do it.
If you are having issues, do you have a screen snip of the cable connections page and the event logs from the modem?
If you're having a new connection, maybe theres issues with the connection.
