r 6080 login fail

just a few days ago we can no long login with 192.168.1.1

it use to just go as chrome remembers the login stuff

but now it says it's not private (which my network is private) and asking for name and password which doesn't work

then asks for serial number

I enter it then asks me what town I was born in and best friends name which I have never entered to the device so this is as far as I get

I did reset but that changed nothing

    What says "not private"?

    What "asks for serial number"?

If you are trying to use the "password recovery" option, there is a bug in Netgear's implementation of password recovery on some devices. You can get locked into a closed loop.

If password recovery is enabled, but you have not set the answers to the questions, it keeps sending you back to the beginning of the process. If you haven't already given the thing your personal answers, they are not in its memory and it has no way of knowing if they are correct.

If the standard factory password (password) does not work, then you will have to factory reset the thing to get back to that. Then either disable password recovery (check the manual for your device) or provide some answers to those questions.

What did you do to reset?

What firmware version do you have on the device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.

It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

I've reset it using the reset button, holding down for at least 30 seconds with it disconnected from modem still no joy

I used netgenie to look at it and I can get to the login but the default password is blank ...this used to show the password in it already and just enter and presto but now it's blank, I put in password and it fails

I can't find the firmwear version

the router itself is working fine. This might have been caused by a very brief ( like turning it off and on again in a blink) power loss last week

That password was filled in by your browser.

What does "it fails" mean? Some sort of error message? Says the password is wrong?

Do you have a different browser you can try?
