VPNs come in different types.
The manual for the R6260 says that its "client-to-gateway tunnel" "lets you use the Internet to securely access your network when you aren’t home". This is not the same as using the home's Internet service while you are away.
The R6260 is a pretty basic router, not one that gets the Nighthawk brand. You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

This does not help.I dont think you understand. I have followed all the instructions from the router itself to set up the vpn for my phone. When I select it and download
the file and i try to import it to the openvpn app on my phone, there is an error with the file. Netgear's firmware is not puttin all the data in the
openvpn file to use the app on the phone. This needs to be fixed or they need to put detailed instructions on how to edit the file for it to
be imported on the device without errors.
Thanks.
