Is that accurate? Not R6400v2? Look at the product label. Firmware

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for a
topic like "Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point".> [...] I disabled the DHCP Server [...]
Is that all you did, or did you follow the instructions in the User
Manual to change it to "Wireless AP" mode? I'd suggest following the
procedure in the User Manual, which also shows how to connect the
R6400[vX]-as-WAP to the main router. (And if you don't do the official
mode change, then you could not use the WAN/Internet port on the
R6400[vX]-as-WAP.)

new LAN IP address (different from "192.168.1.1). Exactly what that new
address will be depends on whether you choose "Get dynamically from
existing router" or "Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not
recommended)". If you don't do the official mode change, then it may
not get a new/different LAN IP address, which could cause problems. If your client device is connected to the R6400[vX]-as-WAP, then a
name like "routerlogin.net" might still work, but the new LAN IP address
should work from anywhere on your LAN.Try following the "Wireless AP" mode-change procedure in the User
Manual, and see if that improves things. Viel Glueck.

Yes it is a R6400v2
I got the manuel, and I used the described process to switch off the DHCP Server.

Try the bit in the manual "Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point".
But be aware of this:
Disabled Features on the Router when set to AP Mode | Answer | NETGEAR Support
And, remember, whenever you reset the R6400v2 it will revert to router mode.
