R6400v2 and OpenDNS blocked thermostat communication

I have a teenage son and had to turn on Parental Controls using OpenDNS (moderate filtering) on my netgear R6400v2.  My wifi thermostats are Cyberstat, a cheap but very solid thermostat for my needs. The thermostats communicate with the Cyberstat server to store and activate different schedules daily.

It turns out that the server can still communicate the schedules to the thermostats as needed, but the thermostats can't update the server - the server thinks the thermostats are off line. Its nice to check on the current temperatures in the house when I am away for longer periods.

Q1: Is this a better question for the OpenDNS community or is there a setting on the router that can change the port/settings used to communicate to the server?
