R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 and 1.0.4.120
We've been having the same issue that's been reported about browsing the web and running into the message "This site cannot be reached" DNS issue when I updated to R6400v2 Firmware Version 1.0.4.118 ...
Thanks for posting. The more that are on here with that issue, the more likely the mod's/engineers will see it.
I came here searching to find out more about the most recent Security Update for the firmware and came across your post. I have had that DNS problem as well...the DNS resolution does occur, but it's super annoying to first see the page saying it's not available. I spent HOURS doing troubleshooting to nail down the source of the issue. I even had my ISP come out...and they gave me a new Modem. Nothing fixed it, until I manually modified my DNS servers for my WiFi Connection.
For Windows 10, this is what I did:
1) Search for the Network and Sharing Center (easiest way is to Right Click "Network" in Windows Explorer")
2) Select "Change Adaptor Settings" on the Left Menu.
3) Double-click your Wifi connection and then choose Properties.
4) Scroll down to Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and double-click.
5) Instead of using "Obtain DNS Server address automatically", I selected "Use the following DNS server addresses".
6) Input 8.8.8.8 in Preferred DNS Server and 8.8.4.4 in Alternate DNS Server.
This solved the issue for my computer and another one in the house. Maybe the firmware upgrades are inadvertently affecting the DNS rerouting that normally ocurrs when it obtains the DNS server automatically from our ISPs. It was a VERY frustrating problem for sure!
